Chinese Government Scholarship-EU program

The EU Program is a full scholarship established by the Ministry of Education (MOE) for students from EU member countries who wish to pursue undergraduate or graduate studies, or participate in general or senior scholar programs in China. The scholarship covers major and Chinese language (preparatory) study and provides comprehensive financial support. This article provides information about the eligibility criteria, application process, and required documents for the scholarship.

II. Supporting Categories, Duration, and Instruction Language
Supporting Category: The scholarship supports undergraduate students, graduate students, general scholars, and senior scholars.
Duration: The scholarship covers the duration of the major study and Chinese language (preparatory) study as specified in the admission letter.
Language Instruction: Undergraduate scholarship recipients must register for Chinese-taught credit courses. Graduate and non-degree scholarship students can register for either the Chinese-taught program or the English-taught program if applicable.
III. Scholarship Coverage
The EU Program scholarship provides a full scholarship covering tuition waiver, accommodation, stipend, and comprehensive medical insurance. Detailed information on each item can be found in the Introduction to CGS-Coverage and Standard.
IV. Eligibility
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must be citizens of an EU member country and be in good health. They must also meet the degree and age requirements specified for each category:
Undergraduate programs: high school graduates under the age of 25
Master’s programs: bachelor’s degree holders under the age of 35
Doctoral programs: master’s degree holders under the age of 40
V. Application Procedure
The application procedure for the scholarship includes four steps:
Apply to the Office for Education and Culture, Mission of P. R. China to the European Union for the CGS opportunity.
Apply to the target university for the Pre-admission Letter after being recommended by the dispatching authorities as an eligible candidate. The candidate will receive an Award Letter for CGS Candidate.
Complete the online application procedure at CGS Information Management System for International Students, submit the completed Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship online, and print a hard copy. The EU office can provide instructions for the CGS Information Management System for International Students and the Agency Number.
Submit all application documents to the EU office before the deadline.
VI. Application Documents (in duplicate)
Applicants must submit the following documents:
  • Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship (written in Chinese or English)
  • Notarized highest diploma
  • Academic transcripts (written in Chinese or English)
  • Study Plan or Research Proposal (written in Chinese or English)
  • Two Recommendation Letters (written in Chinese or English)
  • CD of the applicant's own works (only required for arts students)
  • Valid documents of the applicant's legal guardians in China (only required for applicants under 18)
  • Foreigner Physical Examination Form (photocopy)
  • Copy of Pre-admission Letter from designated Chinese university (if available)
  • Copy of valid HSK Certificate (if available)
VII. Placement and Scholarship Confirmation
The China Scholarship Council (CSC) will consider the application documents of recommended candidates from the EU office for eligibility and qualification. Ineligible or incomplete applications will not be considered. Candidates with the Pre-admission Letter will be placed in the host university, while those without it will be placed by CSC. Successful candidates will receive scholarship confirmation from the CSC.
